Question

Edit on general journal entry says when you use A/P you must choose a vendor in name field. I did so but it won’t save and keeps giving that edit. What can I do?

I'm here to make sure you can save your journal entry successfully, @goodwinfarms.

For any line in a Journal Entry (JE) that you've posted to an account that is Accounts Receivable (A/P) or Accounts Payable (A/R), you must specify a Customer name or Vendor name.

These messages appear when the A/R or A/P account is chosen on a transaction but the name associated with that account is not a customer or vendor name, respectively. It's also possible that the vendor's name isn't in line with the A/P.  See the screenshot below for your reference.

I can not enter the journal entry with Accounts Payable entry, even when I have the vendor name added, and it shows as a vendor.

I even have tried to delete that line now and adjust my journal and it just will not save.

Anything else to try?

Thank you for joining the thread, @CJENV.

I can help you record a journal entry using the Accounts Payable (A/P) account.

There are no reported cases about customers not able to create journal entries using A/P in QuickBooks Online. To isolate the issue, you can start by opening QuickBooks as a master administrator. In most cases, user restriction is the main reason why QuickBooks users are unable to access some features of QuickBooks.

The second step is to create a journal entry using a private window. The original browser you're using tends to hold onto information which causes unusual behavior while working with QuickBooks.

To save you time, I recommend using either of these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P

If that works fine, go back to your original browser and clear its cache to start fresh.

Moreover, using other supported and up-to-date browsers can help us narrow down the cause of this issue.
