Editing Chart of Accounts--unforgiving

I am using QB DESKTOP for a MAC 2019

I am trying to edit a couple of accounts in the chart of accounts.  One of them is 401(K) Payable.  By mistake I coded it as accounts payable.  It should be a liability?  When I go to chart of accounts>401(K) Payable>edit-upon saying- I get an error message saying that "you cannot change an account type to or from an A/R or A/P".

In QB you cannot make an honest mistake?  There are no entries as of yet.  Why can't I make the change?

This isn’t the kind of impression I want you to have when using the product. We’ll have to delete the incorrect account and create a new one.

In QuickBooks, there some accounts you’re unable to change like Accounts Receivable to Accounts Payable. This is to ensure your records have the correct information.

To remove the account:

  1. In your company file, tap the Lists menu to choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. From there, pick the account you wish to delete.
  3. Go to the Edit menu and select Delete Account.
  4. Click OK to confirm the action.

To add:

  1. Go to the Lists menu and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click the Plus icon (+) and complete the account details.
  3. Hit OK once you’re done.

Here’s an article that provides more insights into the process. From there, you’ll also find the steps on how to set up account numbers and add sub-account: Add, edit, or delete accounts in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Thank you.  I had been looking by right clicking and viewing the options there?  I never thought to go to edit menu.
