When I'm working in QB and try to summarize payroll data in excel it says we found a problem with some content in "QB Payroll Link xlt Do you want to recover. When I say "yes" it starts to figure my reports along with a pop up window that says repairs to QB payroll link2 excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content and global pivottable report information was repaired due to integrity problems. It does give the correct figures in the employee journal tab but when i open the quarterly tab the totals are not there at all

It has been about four years now and Intuit has still not fixed the issue.  I'm sure they're still working hard on it as promised here multiple times.

It was easy enough to fix and took a couple of hours, including testing the fixes and then creating a page for downloading.

------Update-------------------------------

We recently added support for QuickBooks 2022 as it has to be different because it's 64bit.

You can download the fixed version from our site, no charge: BRC Summarize Payroll Data In Excel – Fixed!

Spent about 5 hours on the phone in total today with support which was a total waste of time. Watched them uninstall and reinstall both QuickBooks and Excel multiple times. They had me do a new install on my laptop and test it – no difference. They seem to be blaming the fact that we are running Office 365 for the issue and wanted me to load an older version of Excel (which I don’t have and wouldn’t have done anyway). What version of QuickBooks and Excel are you running?

Not sure why they won’t look at the file specified in the message QuickBooks_Payroll_Link.xlt. If Excel says there is unreadable content in the template than the two tabs that are messed up will be messed up no matter what version of Excel you run. Can’t wait for them to call me back in the morning and start all over.

The advice you gave me is exactly what we did both Friday and Monday with the help of the support team. It did not fix the issue. We uninstalled both QuickBooks and Excel multiple times and reinstalled. We also downloaded and installed QuickBooks on my laptop which had never had QuickBooks installed on it prior and still got the same error message. i still believe the error resides in .xlt file and has nothing to do with my installations but apparently reinstalling QuickBooks does not fix the .xlt file.

Hello there, @ssmaupin.

Managing your business is busy enough without the accounting and tax preparation on it. Allow me to share additional information on how you can export your payroll reports.

Microsoft Office 365 is a supported version in exporting your reports if it's locally installed and not the web version.  In the meantime, let's try using an older version of Microsoft Excel in exporting your reports. Ensure to download the latest QuickBooks release and the latest payroll tax table prior doing the export.

You may also check out the articles below for a more detailed information:

If the error persists,  I'd suggest contacting to our Technical Support Team. An agent will look into your account on a secured environment to further check the root cause of the issue.

Here's how:

  1. Visit: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Select your QuickBooks Product.
  3. Choose your QuickBooks version.
  4. On the Contact Us page, click a topic.

Hi there, @casrookie.

Thank you for joining the thread and for sharing the steps you performed on your end.

Currently, QuickBooks Desktop supports the older version of Office 365. I understand how important it is for you and your business for QuickBooks to work with the latest version of Microsoft Excel. I'll surely forward this to our Product Developers for future product updates.

If the issue persist, you can reach out to Microsoft Tech support or an IT professional to further help you in repairing Office on a secured environment.

You can post anytime if you have other questions about exporting your payroll reports. Have a great day ahead!

Some customers have reported being able to click past the error. Here's another potential workaround and I'm looking for confirmation on it's viability so that I can update the report to our product developers.

Workaround: Just hit “Yes” to the first error, then allow you to navigate and select the year and tax form you want to generate. Then, close the second error about the ‘Reports to “QB_Payroll_Link2”

January 16, 2019

The report does run if you do that but the State Tax Wage Listing and the Quarterly tabs do not have correct information in them nor will they have the drop down choices to switch between the various tax types on the State Wage Listing tab. The tabs prior to the State Wage Listing tab are all correct but we use the State Wage Listing tab for multiple things in our company.

February 1, 2019

I have to add my name to the list of people having this problem.  Have tried all of the "work - arounds" listed above and NONE of them worked.  I use the State Wage Listing report every quarter and have done so for the past 11 years.  Suddenly it's not working and it's very frustrating that obviously other people are having the same problems and Intuit isn't getting on this to fix this quickly at a time of year when we're all running quarterly reports.

Hi laurieWalt,

This is already a reported issue. Our engineers are still gathering data for their investigation. To get you added to the affected users, please give our Payroll Team a call.

  1. Go to https://payroll.intuit.com/support/contact/.
  2. Click the Basic, Standard & Enhanced button.
  3. Click Payroll.
  4. Click View Contact Info.

In the meantime, you'll want to run the report from previous quarters and then when asked to update select "Yes" to pull all the data correctly. If that does not work clean install of QuickBooks and Excel are possible fixes.

We're here if you need have other questions.

April 24, 2019

So it is now APRIL 2019 and QB has had time to come up with a solution.

IF there is one please email it to [email address removed] asap.

I've been seeing error messages a few months but just now need this payroll summary for my state UI quarterly payments for our three branch offices.

ADVISE ASAP.  Have tried every fix mentioned here.  This is very very inconvenient.

To the other user who mentioned SAGE, how is their software?  Do they charge half a grand just to update subscriptions each year?

Iam unable to get information on my time sheet. Iam with Disability Action Center

February 5, 2019

Hey there, vedwards.

Good to see you here in the thread. I'm here to get you pointed in the right direction for finding your paycheck and timesheet information.

If you need to view your time sheet, then I would recommend that you use a different report instead. Since, the Summarized Payroll Data in Excel will show you the total number of hours, instead of the timesheet.

That said, you can pull up the Payroll Detail Review report for the paycheck information. Meanwhile, you can pull up the Time by Name report for the timesheet. The steps below will guide you on how to pull them up:

Payroll Data Review

  1. From the reports menu, select Employees & Payroll, then Payroll Detail Review.
  2. Change the From and To dates as necessary.
  3. Click Refresh.

Time by Name

  1. From the reports menu, select Jobs, Time & Mileage, then Time by Name.
  2. Change the From and To dates as necessary.
  3. Click Refresh.

That should get you going in the right direction. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me again if you're referring to something else, I want to make sure you're taken care of. Have a great day!

What's the latest?  Is this thing fixed yet?

December 22, 2019

I, too, am having this problem. It' so ridiculous and time consuming for us to do it manually (unemployment calculations), because QuickBooks export doesn't work. This is across 65 client files.

I have tried everything and nothing is working for me. Others mentioned that they have Excel 2019 or Office 365, but I am using the Microsoft Officer Professional Plus 2016 and it still does not work.

All I can say is, "WTH, Intuit?" Xero may be in my future, because Intuit customer service has gone down hill approximately a year ago. Thanks for outsourcing your customer service overseas (Sarcastically).
