Question

Estimate vs. actual job reporting on hours as well as labour $

We create estimates for larger contract jobs, and use the estimates vs. actuals report constantly and it works great for $ amounts.  But for assessing "where we are" in a project, it would be helpful to have a report that shows estimated vs actual labour hours.  Right now the only way we've been able to do that is manually looking at the hours on the estimate and comparing that to the "time by job" report.

Is there a report we haven't come across that will do this?

I understand the importance of having a report that shows estimated vs actual labor hours in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), Cost Accounting Tony. Let me provide some information on this matter.

In QBDT, you can access the Job Estimates vs. Actuals Detail or Summary report. This report enables you to compare the estimated hours from the original estimate with the actual hours worked. To access this report, please follow these steps:

  1. Hover to the Reports menu, then select Report Center
  2. Select Jobs, Time & Mileage and search for the Job Estimates vs. Actuals Details report. You can choose whether the Summary or the Detailed one
  3. Click Run, to run the report.

Moreover, QBDT allows you to customize any report that you generate. You can personalize the data, add or delete columns, include or remove information on the header/footer, and even customize the font and style of the report.

Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have further questions or require assistance with this report in QBDT. The Community is always available to help you out anytime. Best regards.

Hi there!  Thanks for the reply.  As I mentioned in the original post, we already use that report - it shows dollar figures for labour, not hours.  We are looking for a report that compares hours on the estimate to actual hours worked so far on the job.  We have apprentice technicians that make significantly less than journeymen, so while the dollar amount is good to know, it doesn't tell us how far along the job actually is (which is based on the hours to date / estimated total hours)

Good evening, @Cost Accounting Tony

I appreciate you coming back and giving additional information.

With all the details that were given and nothing is showing the hours, I'll submit your feedback directly to our Product Developers. This will allow them to review your request and try to add them into the system in the near future.

Feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions. Have a wonderful day!
