Hi there, when I 'Download to PDF' my teams' payroll reports, the layout has changed. This new layout is harder to read/follow. How can I get the old layout back with the greyed out background, cell outlines, etc?

We wanted to let you know that once you switch to the classic view, the option to revert to the old layout is currently unavailable.

Moreover, to see the option to switch back to the old layout in future updates, we encourage you to send us your feedback. This enables our product developers to consider bringing back the old view.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. I didn't change anything, was it an automatic update? Can I change it back somehow seen as I didn't do anything? It makes it so much harder to read these reports. I will submit the feedback.

Understanding your payroll reports is crucial, and any changes that disrupt this process can present challenges, @TB86, I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on the recent updates to the report views in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll.

You're correct that this transition to the new Modern View reports is an automatic update driven by our team's commitment to continuously enhancing QBO. Nevertheless, I completely understand the initial inconvenience these changes can cause, especially when they impact something as crucial as your ability to quickly reference payroll data.

Moreover, please know that for some of the payroll reports, you would have the option to Switch to classic view. Please see this image for reference:

If you don't have this option in the report, you might want to export your reports to Excel as a workaround. You can follow these steps:

  1. Go to Reports in your QBO account.
  2. Enter the name of the payroll report you want to pull up in the search field. Then, select the report.
  3. From the Export/Print drop-down list, choose Export to Excel.
  4. Choose the directory where you want to save the file when prompted. Then, click on Save.

Once you have the file, open it in your desired software and save it as a PDF depending on the Excel file software you utilize.

If you need a specific guide to wrap up this year's payroll and prepare for the next, I'm adding this article as a future reference: Year-end checklist for QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Your feedback is valuable to us during this transition period. If you have more questions about running QBO Payroll reports, feel free to click on the Reply button. We're committed to offering ongoing support.
