Question

Extreme slowness, unability to save anything related to inventory

When the new invoice format came out in May, we immediately had performance issues in QBO. We can't delete invoices or sales receipts, or modify them, or just mark them "Send Later". Any change that requires a save creates a high probability that we won't be able to save.

Over time, it has become clear that it is due to this: https://help.developer.intuit.com/s/article/Business-validation-error-while-syncing-transactions-with-inventory-items?elqTrackId=cd21b10e6f694b4f986523919cd6e85e&elq=05ee12cc40fa4d38ac5f55dec33c613f&elqaid=85&elqat=1&elqCampaignId=15

I can't even run the "Inventory Valuation Detail" report mentioned in the work around because it says it is too large to run. We have trouble saving even small invoices or sales receipts, apparently because it is still working on inventory in the background.

We are 2 months in with NO improvement from QBO. They have said they are working on it, but instead of rolling back to something that works we have been left hanging in our busiest season with a bookkeeping team that can't deal with orders.

How many other folks are suffering from this? Or are we an outlier that has grown too large for Quickbooks?

@MAnneJ  You said: "...the Intuit developer."

Suddenly, it all makes sense. That poor, overworked soul.

I can see the challenges you've faced with the recent updates to our software, PBJ10. I know how important it is to navigate through QuickBooks Online (QBO) without difficulty and use it for your daily business needs.

In QBO, the Save button is available for new and existing invoices in the updated version. To fix this, let's perform basic troubleshooting steps. Too much historical data is stored in your cache and cookies, which speeds up loading times for frequently visited websites. Clearing it should solve the issue.

First, access your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:

  • Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Once done, create an invoice again and see the Save button. If it works, switch back to your regular browser. Then, clear its cache. This way, you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also use a different supported one.

Additionally, QBO provides efficient accounting and financial management capabilities through a web-based platform. Intuit strives to ensure that the most-used pages in the program load within 10 seconds, and we continuously monitor our systems to meet this goal.

It's important to note that while QBO operates as a web-based service, its performance can also be influenced by factors such as your computer or device's processing power, available memory (RAM), and the bandwidth of your Internet connection. Issues in any of these areas can affect performance. Ensure that your system meets the basic requirements.

If you continue to experience issues, performing basic troubleshooting steps like clearing your browser's cache, using supported browsers, or checking your Internet connection can often help resolve these issues.

Moreover, you can see this resource as a guide when receiving and recording invoice payments: Record invoice payments.

This thread is always open, and you can always get back to us and share your concerns about QuickBooks changes and how to navigate a specific part of the program, especially in making invoices.

We have also experienced extreme slowness since the updates this year. Although we are able to make changes, it can take up to ten seconds of waiting for a single update on an invoice to save.

Also, it makes no sense that the only options are "Save and Close" or "Save and New." How about just "Save"??? It already takes an inordinate amount of time for the invoice to update, and then once it does we're automatically taken back to the dashboard. Why??? Just because we changed one line doesn't mean we're done with the invoice. Now we have to wait another ten seconds for the search feature to work so that we can go back to the invoice we were just on.

The QBO "updates" have definitely made the software unbearably slow.
