Hello,

Thanks for readiing this and your help.

QB DESKTOP

Multiple trusts pay the management company management fees for properties owned (all the same family).

I ran the report for payments to the managment company and got a total.  But we also reimburse for insurance, etc.

When I filtered (customize report) for just the managment fees the report came out blank!

Yikes!  What did I do wrong?!  Customize report, filter, account, managment fees.

Thanks!

You can generate a transactional detail report to effectively view the management fees you want to display after applying the desired filter, screenname. Let's work through this together to diagnose the issue with the customization and filtering process, and ensure that your report accurately presents the management fees data.

First off, could you please specify which report you initially generated?

It's important to note that QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) utilizes a framework called Sources and Targets to support the application of accounting principles, including recording transactions and generating reports. If the account you filtered for does not show up in the report, this indicates that it has not been designated as the target account.

You can refer to this article for more information: Understand reports.

Meanwhile, you can generate a Transaction Detail Report. This report offers an in-depth overview of each transaction tied to the accounts and filters you specified. It's crucial to set and apply the correct date range for the period you're reviewing to ensure the report accurately reflects the transactions you wish to review.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Custom Reports and then choose Transaction Detail.
  3. In the Display tab, set the date range you want and click OK.
  4. Move to the Filters tab, use the drop-down arrow under accounts to select the desired Account, then click OK.

Additionally, you can leverage QBDT reports to obtain a comprehensive financial overview of your business. For step-by-step guidance, please refer to the article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Using custom reports not only helps resolve specific issues, but it also provides broader insights into your business’s financial health.
