Is there a way to customize the General Ledger report to be run for a range of accounts? If not, is it possible to select a parent account and have the report include all of the sub-accounts?

It's nice to see you here, @mfeirman,

Yes, you can filter accounts in a General Ledger using the Customize option. On the General Ledger report, click the Customize button and add the accounts under Distribution Account and Account filters.

Check out our Reports Help page to learn more about what preference are available in QBO reports and how to use them: Reports Hub for QuickBooks Online.

I understand I can select specific accounts. However, I want my selection to be dynamic, and catch all new accounts in a specific number range as they are added to my chart of accounts. I do not want to keep going into the filter criteria and checking all of the new accounts in the range as they are created.

Hi mfeirman,

Choosing a parent account will indeed be more efficient than having to go through each of the sub-accounts. You can actually do this. When you filter the parent, the subaccounts will be included in the report as long as they are used in a transaction in the period you specified.

Below is a sample GL where I filtered a specific parent account.

That's it. If you need further assistance, just let us know in the Reply section below.

Hi there, CFF61.

I'm here to help you print reports in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Yes, there is. The steps to do this are pretty quick and easy. Here's how to do it:

  1. In QBDT, go to the Reports menu at the top.
  2. In the dropdown, choose Accountant & Taxes, then General Ledger.
  3. Once pulled up, click the Print option at the top, then select Report in the dropdown.
  4. Hit Print.

In case you encounter some printing errors, check out these articles for the detailed steps on how to fix them:

I'm also adding this article that tackles customizing reports in QBDT for future reference: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please let me know if you have additional questions about this or anything else. I'll be here to assist. Stay safe.
