Gross Sales Report by MONTH on Quickbooks Desktop

My client has Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise. We have an audit coming up and they have requested a Gross Sales Report by Month. I tried the Sales by Customers Report but was not able to break it down by month. I tried the Profit and Loss and then clicked on the income to expand.. I got bills and expenses included. Is there not a way to run this report by MONTH? Do I have to literally print a P&L for each month.

My other clients have QB Online and I can easily print this report. Why does Desktop not offer it? Am I missing something?

QuickBooks Desktop offers several ways to view your gross sales figures on a monthly basis, Debbi. I'll walk you through a couple of methods so you don't need to create a separate report by month.

Let's start with the Sales by Customer Summary report. You can customize this report to display monthly data. Here's the step-by-step process:

  1. Go back to the Reports menu, look for Sales and Customers, and then click Sales by Customer Summary.
  2. Change the dates in the Dates section.
  3. Click the drop-down list for Show Columns, then choose Month.

The same option to show data by month is also available in the Profit and Loss report.

Aside from that, you can also run the Monthly Sales by Customer report. Here's how:

  1. Go back to the Reports menu, then choose Reports Center.
  2. Type in "Sales by Month" in the Search bar.
  3. Click Monthly Sales by Customer.

Here's an article that provides more details about customizing reports in the Desktop version: Customize customer, job, and sales reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
