Horse Boarding Business Questions??

I own a horse boarding facility. I’m confused how to categorize many items.

Clients pay me for boarding their horses. Is this categorized as a service?

When I have a vendor such as the equine dentist or Farrier I collect money and pay in one check for multiple horses. How do I categorize the income coming in and then track going out? Billable income?

Horse boarding is not taxed in PA as it’s considered Farm income from what I have been told.

@Tiffany54  As someone who knows what a pitchfork feels like, it's definitely mostly a service, aside from the feed costs.

Schedule F of the income tax return has a specific spot for veterinary expenses; equine dentists definitely qualify and I'd argue that farriers are preventative care.

As far as the income, I'd say that would count as part of the horse boarding sales. If you don't upcharge for such, it'll level out to a net zero on your income taxes anyway.

Might be worth asking your income tax preparer directly, at any rate. I'm not familiar with PA specifically.
