Hello edgar.tamayo,

I'm glad you posted!

When you import a general ledger from an excel file, you can only bring in account balances and details; individual transactions can't be imported. To do this, you can click on the Gear icon in the upper-right to open the company menu, then click on Import Data. From there, select Accounts and follow the prompts (you can download a sample file there as well to make sure your formatting is correct) to import the list of accounts and their balances.

If you need an import solution that links transactions, please refer to the Intuit Marketplace for third-party developers. You can visit this article: https://apps.intuit.com/.

You can go to Import Limitations for more details.

Please let me know if you need anything else. I'm always happy to help!

I am not online subscriber of intuit, I bought my license from reseller. Can i also purchase this app? My QB files were infected by wallet ransomeware virus. I have excel transactions of these QB files and would like to import it to QB. Hope you can help me. I’ve just posted a similar question of my own - I need to get a complete GL, with transactions, from QB into QB, so that I can work with the data. I’ve just clicked a number of times on your link for Intuit Marketplace, and it says it can’t find that server.

Hello there, @121271.

Let me guide you through the steps of importing accounts into QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under Tools, choose Import data.
  3. From the Import Data window, select Chart of accounts.
  4. Click Browse, then choose the file you want to upload.
  5. Select "Next" and then "Map your data."
  6. Click Next, then enter the Account NameType, and Detail Type in the Import window.
  7. Hit Import.

Additionally, importing the general ledger data is unavailable. We can manually enter them instead. Then, ensure you turn on the class tracking feature to track income or expenses by segment.

You can also read this article which provides FAQs about importing data to QuickBooks Online: Importing Data.
