Question

How can I link my bank account to an existing chart of account account, if that existing bank account does not show up in the drop down box?

The accounts were previously linked, but somehow the link was severed.

Let me share some insights into linking your existing bank account in QuickBooks Online, 29broadstreet.

If you can't see the current bank account in the Chart of Accounts (CoA), it might be the bank account is marked as inactive. You can verify this by accessing your CoA and selecting to display inactive accounts. If the account shows up, you can then reactivate it.

Here's how:

  1. On the left navigational bar, go to the Transactions.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Beside the Printer icon, click the Gear icon and tick the box beside Include inactive.
  4. Locate the inactive bank account below the Action column, and click Make Active.

See this page for more details: Make an account inactive on your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Once done, you can reconnect the bank account to your company file. Refer to this article for more information: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online.
