How can I make change the line up in order on the PL?

<Example/PL>

1000 Sales

  1000-1 Rice

  1000-2 Bread

  1000-3 Meat

  1000-5 Fish

Added New account as 1000-4 Drink.

After Added the new code should be shown on PL between 1000-3 Meat and 1000-5 Fish.

But it shows on PL as below:

1000 Sales

  1000-4 Drink

  1000-1 Rice

  1000-2 Bread

  1000-3 Meat

  1000-5 Fish

I added the COGS for it as same method, however properly on the line up by account code.

Hello there, @Japan2023. Let's configure your accounts and take a few steps to fix their lineup in the Profit and Loss report.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), the lineup of sub-accounts will depend on their name formats. To ensure they will follow the correct sequence, we have to make sure that they have the same first few characters before the specific name. For instance, if the accounts for Meat and Fish are named like this: 1000-(number)<space>(Name), therefore, the account for Drink must have the same format.

To verify, let's check the accounts 1000-3 Meat, 1000-4 Drink, and 1000-5 Fish if they have the same formats. Here's how:

  1. Switch your QBO view to Business view first to easily locate the accounts.
  2. Next, select the Gear and click Chart of accounts.
  3. Locate the accounts in question.
  4. Then, click the dropdown arrow of that account and choose Edit.
  5. From there, check the Name field to see if they have the same formats.
  6. If incorrect, simply edit the names.
  7. Once done, select Save and close.

However, if verified that they have the correct name format, we can perform some troubleshooting steps to determine if this is a browser-related issue. Let's start by accessing your QBO account through an incognito mode. This does not store cache which has the potential to become corrupted and cause unexpected behavior. Below are the shortcut keys you can use:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: press Command + Shift +N

Once signed in, run the Profit and Loss report and check if this now shows the correct lineup of the accounts. If this works, clear the cache of your regular browser to eliminate piled-up data that might caused the issue. If the same thing happens, I recommend using another supported browser or device. It might be that your current browser has a temporary issue with QBO.

If the issue persists, we can inactivate the account in question and re-create it. It may have been damaged causing it to appear in the wrong order.

It's also recommended to reconcile your account regularly to make sure that the balance matches your real-life bank statement.
