Question

How can my contractors view their 1099s online, if I didn't have them set up their own W9s?

I used the $5 QBO 1099 e-file product/service, but I entered the contractors W9 info. myself. So now I can't figure out how my contractors can view their 1099-NECs online.

Let me share some insights about how your contractors view their 1099s in QuickBooks Online (QBO), pytllcbooks.

When e-filing in QuickBooks Online, the program will automatically submit the relevant forms for you. You have the option to let your contractors view and print their 1099s, and you'll be prompted to choose a delivery option for their copies. If you don't see this option, you've already opted to provide your contractors with online access to their 1099s.

After you file the forms with QuickBooks and the IRS receives them, that's when we mail paper copies to your contractors. At the same time, we send them emails to view their forms online. You can confirm with your contractors if they've received the email or view the status in QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Then, go to the 1099 filings tab.
  3. From there, you can check the status from the Recipient's copy section.

Once confirmed that they received the email. they can already view or print their forms. They just need to select the link in the email to sign in, then click the Clients menu and Forms to get a copy.
