Question

- How do I batch update income accounts?- Will that update past invoices to represent the correct income account?- If it doesnt update past orders, what are my options?

I mistakenly marked most of my products "Income Account" as service.

I only just realized it preparing for my taxes.

Now I need to make sure I update all the products that need updating to go into Sales instead of service.
- How do I batch update all products through a spreadsheet or similar format?

I also need to make sure to correct the income account on all past invoices.
- If updating the products doesn't correct the issue on past invoices, I have no idea where to begin. How do I update the sales account of each item on past invoices?

Thanks!

I can help you correct the income account that was marked as service, @skevorki.

You can update the historical data in the product information so that it can also update the historical transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online.
  2. Hover your mouse on Sales, then click on Product and Services.
  3. Choose the specific Service Item that you mistakenly make, and click on Edit on the right side of that.
  4. In the income account field, choose the correct income account that you work on.
  5. After you choose the income account, you can check on the box below the sales price/ rate, so that it can also update the historical transactions.
  6. Once done hit Save and Close.

Additionally, I've included these helpful articles about how to record historical vendor transactions, past sales, and accounts receivable in QBO and reports to see your sales and inventory status:
