Let me guide you in calculating the taxable subtotal for your invoice, Donsiha.

QuickBooks automatically calculates the total tax rate for each sale based on the following reasons:

  • Your customer's tax-exempt status
  • Where you sell and where you ship
  • What you sell

If you're using manual sales tax, you can check if you can now switch to automated sales tax. If so, make sure to put a checkmark on the Tax column to calculate the taxable amount on the subtotal amount.

Once done, select See the math or Edit tax. This opens the "How your sales tax is calculated" page where QuickBooks gives you a detailed breakdown of the sales tax.

After clicking the See the match hyperlink, it will show how your sales tax is calculated:

Otherwise, if you're still using manual sales tax, learn how to track sales tax manually so you can use custom rates on your invoices and receipts. For more details, read this article for reference: Use Custom Rates To Manually Calculate Sales Taxes on Invoices or Receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, QuickBooks caters to different kinds of taxable sales reports that let you track your taxable items. To know more, check out this article to know what are these reports included in your subscription: Reports Included in your QuickBooks Online Subscription.
