I'm going to discuss the process of recording a credit into a tip in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Jay.

First, you'll need to create an income account specifically for tracking tips. Ensure to select Other Income as the Account Type and Other Miscellaneous Income as the Detail Type.

Once done, set up an item for the tips by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Products and Services.
  2. Click New, then Non-inventory.
  3. Enter a Name.
  4. Select the account you created for the Income account.
  5. Click Save and Close.

Next, record the credit as a tip. To do that:

  1. Go to the Sales tab, then Invoices.
  2. Select Create invoice.
  3. Enter the customer's details. In the Products/Services field, select the tip item you previously created.
  4. Click Save. If your credits are configured to apply automatically, you're done. Otherwise, select Receive payment.
  5. Select the credit, then click Save and close.

Moving forward, you'll want to add tips to your sales forms in QBO to skip the hassle of manual setup.
