Hello belichick1,

Thanks for sharing your concern with us!

Currently, there's no Sales Order feature in QuickBooks Online. However, you can create an Estimate by clicking on the Plus (+) icon and choosing Estimate. This will be a non-posting transaction that can be turned into an invoice at a later time. When the customer gets the invoice, this can act as the sales order.

I have attached a screenshot for your reference.

You may want to submit a feature request for the ability to create a Sales Order. You can do that by clicking on the Gear icon at the top and selecting Feedback. Requests entered there will be considered by the software engineers for inclusion in future updates.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have other concerns.

Thank you for taking the time to answer but sales order and estimates are used for two different activities within a company, it frustrates me that we have to try and use so many workarounds when we are paying for a product that is under developed. Sales orders have been requested for years by the looks of things with no progress at all.

hi there , I would suggest you to shift to zoho books as they are cheaper than this and has far more basic functions that QBO is unable to give for last 3-4 years.

shame

Sales Orders and Purchase Orders
I suggest you look at other software's like ERP-Horizon as they have all the features people are looking for with the same cost.

We need Sales Orders ASAP in QBO. I have been a customer for years an annoyed by this issue. I will not move to QB Enterprise with hosting... i tried it and it sucks. I love QBO but need you to step up your game and ESCALATE this issue so the right person gets the information and get this done.

Renaming an ESTIMATE as a Sales Order WON'T WORK! an Estimates is not a posted transaction!!

I need to be able to send SALES ORDER to my customer and in my INVENTORY I need to be able to se the amount that is ALLOCATED for those Sales orders and then the amount available for sale after that!

I been having to run excel sheets to track this just because you have not implemented this for the past 3 years EVEN when many users have requested it...

How can we make this happen? seriously!

@Pipe3001

Options:

1. Having a 3rd party app to integrate with your QBO (e.g inventory management app, manufacturing app)

2. Switch to QBD Premier/Enterprise. Deploy a private cloud or put the license on a QB cloud hosting.

I tried QB Enterprise with Hosting and it wont work for me... I really need QBO Online because I use different Apps that Integrate to it. (They cannot connect to QB Enterprise)

I pull a lot of data from QBO using a BI software. I am checking for an Inventory Management software but they dont connect to the BI software... that's why just being able to create SO in QB Online and seen the allocated inventory will fix the issue

I'm going to reignite this conversation. How can we push to have sales orders added to QBO? This is the type of issue that we may have to leave QBO for if it isn't resolved in the near future. Without sales orders, there is no way for product/manufacturing businesses like ours to track our sales pipeline or the costs that go into it. Using "Estimates" doesn't fix the issue, because then you can't use QBO to actually send your customers estimates. We sales orders as an interim step between "Estimates" and "Invoices" to track firm orders received an in process, but not yet billed.

If QBO can't address this, you're essentially preventing any manufacturing/product based business from effectively using your software. Need action here ASAP.

Hello there, @Pure Water.

I hear you and realize the importance of being able to process sales orders in QuickBooks Online. However, this option isn't available on the said platform.

For now, you make consider utilizing the estimate feature or check for a third-party application that supports this option as suggested by my peers above.

Know that we're constantly considering new features to be added in QBO to cope with your business needs. I'd encourage you to send this suggestion to our developers so this will be assessed.

To do that:

  1. Click on the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select on Feedback.
  3. Enter your suggestion.

You can also visit our QuickBooks Online Blog site to be updated with our latest news and product developments.

My doors are always open to help if you have any other concerns with QuickBooks. Have a good one!

Dear BettyJaneB,

Sadly, the answer you gave to PureWater is exactly the reason I will be actively looking for other software.

I just joined QB, 2-weeks ago.  I learned today; QB does not have a Sales Order!  This is the absolute stupidest thing, I have ever heard!  As several of the other respondents have outlined, there is an estimate (quote), then you receive the order (booked  business), an acknowledgement is sent to the customer and when the order ships, you invoice (billed business) the customer!

This is standard procedure in most all businesses.  This is an absolute deal breaker for me!  Some of my order take weeks and months to ship.  How am I suppose to keep track of them, if I cannot enter them in my accounting system?

Since, I just joined; I am going to look to the other programs mentioned in this forum.

So it's 2022 and QBO still doesn't have Sales Orders available.  We are switching from Desktop to Online and I can't believe this hasn't been resolved.  We will NOT use a 3rd part app for this, nor will we use an Excel workbook.  It is 2022 for goodness sake!

Could someone please post an update on getting Sales Orders available.

Thanks for joining the conversation, @EBL2022.

Sales orders are not currently available within QuickBooks Online. I realize this is an important feature for your business, and I'm more than happy to share this feedback with our developers for future improvements within the product.

If you have specific thoughts you'd like to share, you can do so here: How do I submit feedback?

Thank you for being part of the Community, and let me know if there's anything else I can assist with.

Jessica_young is it true that in the second quarter of 2022 QBO will have a Sales Order feature?

I need to know if I will stay with QBO or leave. I will leave if QBO does not have this function within 5 months.

March 22, 2023

Can someone please reply with some system platforms that they have since switched to from QBO that have addressed this issue, but has kept the good features that QB has to offer? I see ZOHO mentioned a few times, are there any others?

We use SOS Inventory and I've been pretty happy with it.  I still wish QB Online would implement Sales order to Invoice flow so I would haven't to pay and added cost.
