Greetings to you, @rescue-pawrump-o. I'll be guiding you on how to delete a category and transactions in your credit card account.

Before anything else, I'd like to know if your goal is to delete the transactions that are placed in the Credit Card section or the category in the Chart of Accounts (COA) that affects your credit card.

If you're referring to the Credit Card section from the Bank Transactions tab, the delete option isn't available there. However, you can Exclude these transactions to avoid affecting your book and financial reports.

Here's how:

  1. Select bank transactions from the Transactions tab.
  2. Click the credit card account tile above.
  3. In the For Review box, tick the box for the transactions you want to remove.
  4. Once done, select Exclude.
  5. If it's from the categorized section, tick the box for the transactions and select Undo so it will go back to the For Review section.
  6. After that, Exclude them.

On the other hand, to remove a category in COA that affects your credit card account, you'll need to make the category inactive. However, there are things you need to take notes on before you perform the steps.

You can read them below:

  • Permanent deletion of an account isn't possible, except for merging one account into another.
  • Editing transactions associated with an inactive isn't possible. To edit/delete them, you'll need to restore the account by going to the register and removing individual entries. Afterward, analyze the account and correct it to a zero balance before deactivating it.
  • Correct the balance to zero before inactivating the balance sheet account. If it's not, QBO will adjust the entry to zero out the balance automatically.

You might want to categorize your bank transactions automatically in the future. Check out this article: Set up bank rules to categorize online banking transactions in QuickBooks Online.
