Question

How do I display only non-zero rows in a custom report related to a Balance sheet account

When viewing a balance sheet in the "Classic View"  there is a "customize" link with an option to show only non-zero rows.  That option is not available in the "Modern View".  However, if I go to the Classic view update the selection and then switch to Modern View that preference is saved.

However, when creating a custom report, from a Balance sheet there is no classic view options, so all non-zero rows are still displayed. Is there a way to change the report to show only non-zero rows?

Yes, pkeogan. You can adjust the report to display only non-zero rows. I'll elaborate on this below.

The Modern view offers customization options for reports, even though it doesn't have a specific Customize button like the Classic view. In the Modern view, you can also filter the report to show only non-zero rows. However, instead of leaving out accounts with zero balances like in the Classic view, it displays a dash (-) for those accounts.

Here's how to filter your custom report:

  1. Navigate to the General options.
  2. Tick the Don't show zero amounts and Non-zero selection.

Moreover, I recommend creating a custom report in Classic view moving forward. This will enable you to tailor your reports accordingly.

Finally, I’d like to share some resources that can help you maximize your financial reports and learn how to delete a balance sheet account from your chart of accounts:

Sorry, I must not have asked my question well. I am asking about a custom report related to a Balance sheet account not the balance sheet it's self.

I have a liability account "2300 Unearned Income"  which is used when we pre-bill a customer.  So each month we make adjustments.  After several years we now have may customers with a non Zero balance.  I would like to have a custom report that shows the balances of customers (so grouped by customer) but only display the ones with a non Zero balance.

1) If I start from the balance sheet in the Modern View then I can not create the report that only displays the customers with a non Zero balance -  That makes sense based on your earlier answer.

2) If I start from the balance sheet from the Classic View already set to only display the customers with a non Zero balance then I can create the Custom report and it works correctly.  However (a) if I switch the modern view then all the zero balance customers are displayed again (b) if I keep in Classic view then I can not save in the same group as my modern reports.

I am choosing to use option 2b; but this means I can not schedule this report to be emailed and its in a different group than other related reports
