I listed them and have paid them for contract labor as an employee, but I need to change their profile to a contractor so I can issue a 1099. Help!

I've got the steps to convert an employee to a contractor, olivia-mustardse.

First, change the employee's status to Terminated. Here's how:

  1. Go to Payroll and click Employees.
  2. Find the employee, then click Edit beside the Employment details section.
  3. On the Status dropdown, choose Terminated, then hit Save.

Then, proceed by adding a contractor.

  1. Go to Payroll and click Contractor.
  2. Click Add your first contractor if you don't have one yet or Select the Add a contractor button at the upper right.
  3. Enter the Name and Email. (Please remember to use a different name than the one listed for the employee. You can add a middle initial.)
  4. Check the box to email the contractor, so they can complete their profile.
  5. Hit Add contractor.

Moreover, I'll share this article to help you add a contractor or change an amount when you create your 1099s: Troubleshoot missing contractors or wrong amounts on 1099s.
