Dear Team,

Can someone guide me on how to get a detailed trial balance sheet from quickbooks online?

I want to see the opening balance once the report generates, but unfortunately I dont see anything related to opening balances and closing balances.

Kindly guide me.

I'm here to walk you through pulling up the report you need, Aleem Shaik.

Trial Balance and Balance Sheet Detail reports will show the beginning balance of each account.

While there isn't a specific report to show both the beginning and closing balance, you can run the Transaction Detail by Account. It contains the total of each account on your Chart of Accounts.

Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Find and open a report.
  3. Use the basic filters on the report to adjust things like the report dates.
  4. Click Customize to apply multiple filters.
  5. Click Run reports.

Check out this link to learn how to personalize your financial statements: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

You can also export the report if you need to change the fonts, colors, or other aspects of the visual appearance. For detailed steps, here's how to export reports to Excel.

Dear Maryland,

Thanks for your update but being an ERP it should give us the detailed trial balance is not it? When we open the trial balance, it should show us last year closing balance as this year opening balance.

Is it not available in the complete set of quick books or only  quick books online? It will be an issue at the time of auditing.

Kindly guide me.

Thanks for getting back to us, @Aleem Shaik.

As mentioned by my colleague MaryLandT, there isn't a report that shows the beginning and closing balance. As a workaround, you can export the reports to Excel and manually add the information that needed,

Here's how:

  1. On the left panel, click Reports.
  2. Search for and select the report you want to export.
  3. Press the small cogwheel icon within the report.
  4. Put a checkmark on the columns you want to show.
  5. Hit the export icon.
  6. Choose Export to Excel

Do you get the information that you need if you set the time period equal to 12/31/prior year thru 12/31/current year and then select customize and set the period to months? You will see that this displays the 12/31/PY balance and the 12/31/CY balance. You also get the extraneous 11 months in between, however in excel you can hide or delete those columns.
