Question

How do I get my customer list in the drop down menu on my invoicing page to be listed alphabetically? It used to be alphabetical and now it is just a random list

I've got your back in arranging the customer names on the Invoices page in alphabetical order in QuickBooks Online (QBO), dfgstables.

You'll have to click the Customer toggle button to arrange it in ascending order. This provides a list of customer names in alphabetical order. See the screenshot for your reference:

If the same thing happens after sorting the names, we can log in to your account using an incognito browser. Private browser prevents saving cache and cookies that sometimes cause errors when running frequently visited websites. Here are the useful shortcut keys you can use to access one:

  • Ctrl+ Shift + N for Google Chrome

  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox

     and Microsoft Edge

  • Command + Shift + N for Safari

If it works, return to your default browser and clear its cache. Every so often the cache becomes overwhelmed with older data which can potentially cause viewing and performance issues. Clearing it will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with a clean slate. Switching to another compatible one to help rectify the issue.

As always, feel free to read the topics from our help articles in case you need tips and related links while working with QuickBooks in the future.

If you have any further questions regarding invoices in QBO, feel free to reach out. I'll be here to help you out. You have a good one.

The issue is when I go to the create an invoice page and then try to select customer. Its that menu that has them all rearranged and no longer alphabetized.

Thank you for providing additional details to clarify the issue regarding how customers are arranged on the list, dfgstables. I appreciate your time in responding to us.

After testing in my own QuickBooks Online account, I still see customer names arranged alphabetically by default. In this case, I recommend you connect directly with our phone or chat support teams for further troubleshooting.

They can provide one-on-one guidance by looking at the details within your QBO setup to determine why your customers are not listed as expected when creating invoices.

Here's how to reach out to them:

  1. Log in to your QBO account.
  2. Go to the Help menu in the upper-right-hand corner to open the QB Assistant window.
  3. Type in talk to a human and press Enter.
  4. Select QuickBooks Online Support, then click Contact Us.
  5. Provide a short description of your concern. Then, click Continue.
  6. You'll see several options on how you want to get in touch with our support team.
  7. Select Callback if you want to save your spot in the queue. Choose Appointment to have someone call you in the next available schedule. On the other hand, click Chat if you want to start a conversation with one of our chat support agents.

Feel free to browse these articles and resources for additional details about the sales and customer features in QBO:
