Thanks for joining the forum and sharing details of your concern about recording a customer's 50% payment deposit in QuickBooks Online. I'm here to walk you through the steps to achieve this.

This option is available in estimates, and you need to have QuickBooks Payment so that you can request a deposit. To request and receive deposits on your invoices and estimates, you'll have to sign up for a QuickBooks Payments account. From there, it'll be easier to request a deposit that customers can pay directly from an estimate.

On the other hand, you'll want to create estimates and manually convert them to invoices in case you don't have QuickBooks Payments or the new estimates and invoices. Keep in mind that this option is exclusive to new estimates and invoices.

 Here's how:

  1. Go to + New, then select Estimate.
  2. Choose a customer from the dropdown.
  3. From the Product or Service field, select the dropdown and choose your product or service. Then, add the rate, if needed.
  4. To request a deposit, select + Request a deposit. then enter the amount.
  5. The payment methods for the deposit are displayed in the Ways to Pay section. to edit, turn on/off the switches under Payment Methods.
  6. Click Review and Send to save and send the estimate to your customer.
