Congratulations on your first post to the Community, sw04. I have the steps to check Journal Entries (JE) in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

First, we can pull up a Journal Report to see all transactions made through JE. From there, we can tap the amount or the transaction to see specific information. Before that, let’s ensure to filter the dates to include the past entries. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and locate Journal.
  2. In the report window, click the Customize button to filter specific Journal Entries.
  3. Select the Date under the Report period.
  4. From the Filter dropdown, mark check the Transaction Type and select Journal Entry from the option.
  5. Then, click Run Report.

I’ve included these references in case you’d like to save the report setting and print it for future use:

That should get you to check your JE transactions in the application, sw04. If you have other concerns that may need my assistance, please don’t hesitate to post them here. Have a good one!

I really appreciate your quick reply Rose.

I can see my journal report, but it just shows numbers, not what each item was or how to check and edit them.

Somehow my taxable income has shown correctly, but neither my profit and loss nor my  balance sheet show any expenses, so are quite incorrect.

If you could guide me how I can check my settings and edit or if you have any idea about why my expenses aren't being included, I'd be very grateful.

I'm pretty confident that my accounts are set correctly, and that each journal entry number showed in the journal report.

I don't seem able to include screen shots here

Thank you for returning to this thread and sharing more information regarding your journal entry concern, @sw0444705-studen. I'll provide more information about missing expenses, checking items, and adding screenshots.

First, let's pull up your journal entry to see or edit the items on that specific amount. Please follow RoseJillB's post above to proceed, then hover your mouse to any amount. It will open the transaction where you can make changes to the items.

In terms of the unavailable expenses on your P&L report, review the accounting method. This setting affects the transactions shown whether completed or pending. On the other hand, the Balance Sheet only shows assets, liabilities, and equity. That's why there are no expenses there.

Lastly, click the Camera icon under the Details to insert photos in the Community forum.

Here's an article to learn more about this: Why are my income and expense transactions missing from my Profit and Loss report?
