Question

how to add commission to QB Online

Hello everyone. As you already know, Quickbooks online does not currently have a commission tracker. So I need to have a way of sending out invoices to customers. Then also have a way to track the commission the sales rep made for that invoice, that will be calculated later in profits and losses. The thing that is tricky is, not all the sales people get the same commission percentage. Also, some are on a payroll that also get sales commission while others simply just get paid commission. Any ideas on how to get through this?

It's nice to see you here in the Community, @HeritageWBEUser. I appreciate your insight about adding a commission in QuickBooks. I'd be pleased to help you in creating an item and how to handle this in QuickBooks Online.

Please know that your ideas will help us understand where we can improve and how we can better serve like adding a commission in QuickBooks Online. As we assess this, I encourage you to share your feedback with our product engineers. We continue to improve the product, and this feature might be available in the future.

 Here's how to submit feedback:

  1. Click on the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback under User Profile.
  3. Share your feedback under the Feedback page.

While this option is not available ,I'd suggest creating a service item for a commission rate. Then add the item to your invoice or bill depending on how you get the commission.

Here's how to create a service item for the commission:

  1. Select the Gear icon on the Toolbar, then choose Products and Services.
  2. In the Products and Services window, select New.
  3. Select Service.
  4. Enter the service information (you may type in commission on the Name field) and click Save and close.

To track sales commissions, you can check this article link: Track sales commissions in QuickBooks Online.

When everything is fine, you can now record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online. It also includes instructions on how you can use the Undeposited Funds account in recording customer payments.

Keep me posted if you have questions or concerns about adding a commission. I'll be around to guide you in recording those transactions. Take care and have a nice day ahead.

@HeritageWBEUser

Consider having a 3rd party commission tracker app to integrate with QBO.

Hello there, Raleighgrooming.

I understand how frustrating it can be to switch to a new system and encounter unexpected difficulties.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can set a commission percentage for your sales representatives by creating an item. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Products and services.
  3. Click New.
  4. Tap Service.
  5. Enter the name of the commission.
  6. Put the commission percentage in the Sales price/rate field.
  7. Hit Save and close.

Once done, you can then assign it to the appropriate sales transactions. When creating a sales receipt or invoice, you can add the commission as a line item, and QuickBooks will calculate the commission based on the percentage you entered.

Furthermore, you may want to look for a third-party application to help you add a commission percentage. You can find one by visiting this website: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/.

Additionally, check this guide to track sales commissions.

Here are a detailed guidance on how to create an invoice and how to record customer payments once you've received them:

When I do this it adds it as a dollar amount and not a percentage. How do I add it as a percentage of the sale? When I add "%" to the line it says "Use numbers only"
