Yes, you can, Zajicek. I'd be delighted to provide the steps to upgrade to QuickBooks Online.

When switching from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online, let's save your financial reports first. This way, you can keep a copy of your books since there's no way to return to the self-employed version once upgraded.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. From the Tax details section, select a tax year.
  3. Select Download.
  4. Download a report for each year you have in QuickBooks.
  5. Repeat these steps for your Profit and Loss, Mileage Log, and Receipts.

Once done, I recommend following the steps below to copy your data to QuickBooks Online. Beforehand, ensure you purchase your self-employed plan on our website.

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then from the Profile column, select Upgrade.
  2. Check the different QuickBooks Online versions, then select Choose plan.
  3. Review the changes in features, then click Sounds good.
  4. If you want to copy your data to QuickBooks Online, select Bring my data. Otherwise, select Start Fresh.
  5. If you choose to bring your data, follow the steps to categorize open transactions and mark the paid invoices.
  6. Review the summary of data that you'll move to QuickBooks Online.
  7. Click Continue, then To QuickBooks Online!
  8. Double-check your payment method, then hit Change plan. If you need to change your payment method, click Edit.
  9. Answer or confirm ‌a few details about your business to start using QuickBooks Online.

However, if you subscribed through Google Play or App Store, you can only switch to QuickBooks Online manually. For a detailed guide, please see this article and scroll down to the Manually switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online section: Upgrade to the online version.

Once you successfully switch, you can consider canceling your self-employed subscription to avoid unwanted charges. Then, please browse our Get Started article to guide you through the transition and help you set up your file efficiently.

You can click the Reply button on this thread if you need additional assistance switching to the online version or navigating the program. My team and I are ready to help you.

Think twice and do a LOT of research before taking on the bull**** that is QBOnline..

It is NOT user friendly and is ALWAYS broken or being changed. (And not for the better)

A LOT of people that switch to Online always go back to what they had prior to switching, as you lose a LOT of features with QBO.

Good luck.
