Question

I accidentally assigned transactions to a vehicle that I shouldn't have. How do I unassign the transactions from the vehicle?

I was going through and verifying everything was entered correctly before exporting my data to TurboTax, accidentally misclicked a while managing a block of transactions, and ended up accidentally assigning those transactions to my primary vehicle. These transactions did not belong being assigned to that vehicle, and this clerical error will cost me several thousand more dollars in taxes than I should be paying. How do I unassign these transactions from the vehicle in question?

I understand your situation and the potential impact on your taxes. I'm here to help you sort this out, @LavenderSystem.

Currently, the option to unassign a vehicle from a transaction once it has been assigned is unavailable. However, you can still allocate the transactions to the correct vehicle if needed.

To allocate the transactions to the correct vehicle:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Self-Employed account.
  2. Navigate to the Mileage section.
  3. Locate the transactions that were mistakenly assigned to the wrong vehicle.
  4. Click on each transaction to open the details.
  5. At the top of the page, you should see an option to Change Vehicle click on this icon.
  6. A dropdown menu will appear, allowing you to select the correct vehicle.

If the transactions should not be assigned to any vehicle, you also have the option to delete and recreate them.
