Solved

I accidently selected "inactive" on a credit card account in my chart of accounts. Option to un-check this option is greyed out. I see no way to make the account active.

Credit card accounts can be made inactive or active again easily, affordablehomes.

There's a possibility that the credit card account is damaged. Hence, you cannot make it active again. Before we do any troubleshooting steps, I'd recommend updating QuickBooks to the latest release.

We can do the Verify and Rebuild Data process to check the data integrity of your company file and fix it. After that process, we can go back and make the credit card account active again.

If the same thing happens, we can create a dummy credit card account and merge it to the inactive one.

  1. Click Lists at the top menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. At the bottom of the Chart of Accounts page, click the drop-down arrow next to the Account button and select New.
You can press the Ctrl + N keys as a shortcut.
  3. Select Credit Card and click Continue.
  4. Enter Dummy Credit Card in the Account Name field.
  5. Select Save & Close.
  6. At the bottom of the Chart of Accounts page, mark the Include  inactive box.
  7. Right-click on the affected credit card account (inactive) and click Edit Account.
  8. Update the Account Name the same as the dummy credit card and click Save & Close.
  9. It will prompt you to merge the accounts. You can select Yes to confirm the action.

This should make the inactive credit card account active again.

Give this a shot and keep us posted on the results. We'll help you more if you require additional assistance.

Thanks for visiting the Community for help, @affordablehomesm. I can feel the urgency to make the inactive credit card account re-activate in your chart of accounts.

Since the option to uncheck the box for Account is inactive, I'll walk you through the different ways to reactivate it. Here's how:

  1. In your List menu, select the Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the credit card account, then right-click to it.
  3. Select Make Account Active on the menu.

I'm adding an article you may find interesting: Understand the QuickBooks Chart of Accounts. It includes steps to common Chart of Accounts task in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please know I'm always here if you have any other questions. Take care.

Thanks for your reply. I am however very aware of the typical way to make an account active again. As stated in my question, this option is greyed out for me and I am unable to select this option. I can re-activate other types of accounts in my chart of accounts with no problem but not any credit card I have selected inactive. Please see this photo for reference. I have also tried logging into the admin account and also my user account with full privileges. Any help is greatly appreciated.
