Question

I am categorizing bank account transaction. Problem: When I change category of one check, it changes all of the checks! How can I categorize just one check at a time?

I have added specific "payee" and categorized "payee" but still all change.

We appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention, info2004. We can perform some troubleshooting steps to help isolate this banking issue and enable you to categorize one transaction at a time.

When you categorize one check from the Banking/Transactions menu's For review tab, only its account information should be changed and won't include all other expense transactions.

This system's unusual banking behavior is likely caused by a browser-related issue. To fix this, we can perform some troubleshooting steps. Let's start by pulling up your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox)
  • Control Option (Safari)

Once signed in, go to the Banking/Transactions menu's For review tab and categorize a check.

If you're able to do so, return to your default browser and clear its cache. After that, log out and then log back into your account. This will refresh the system and remove older data that causes viewing and performance issues.

However, if this matter continues, I'd recommend using other supported browsers.

Moreover, if you want to manually categorize your transactions, you can turn the suggestions off. In Bank transactions, go to Settings ⚙ and uncheck Enable suggested categorization.

Additionally, we recommend regularly reconciling your accounts (monthly) to track your income and expenses effectively.
