Question

I am unable to mark a contractor as "inactive". Red message keeps popping up saying "Unable to mark contractor inactive" and underneath it says "something went wrong..."

Underneath the red message it says "Something went wrong. Please wait a moment and try again. If the problem continues, contact us."

Thank you for sharing the specific error message you encountered, wegnerconstructi. I will provide you with the necessary details to resolve this issue and help in deactivating the contractor's profile.

In most cases, this error occurs if the contractor has pending transactions such as unbilled charges. To address this issue, follow these steps to access the Unbilled Charges report and review if there are transactions that need to be closed:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and type in Unbilled Charges in the Search bar.
  2. Make sure the date is set to All Dates.
  3. If there are pending charges, click on it to open the transaction.
  4. Depending on what's most applicable, you can invoice it, assign it to a different contractor, or delete it.

If there are no outstanding charges, the error encountered while trying to deactivate a contractor could be attributed to browser-related issues.

I'll share additional steps that can resolve browser-related issues when working in QBO:

After going through those steps, attempt deactivating the contractor again and see if it works now.

In addition, here are a couple of helpful articles with more guidance and resources on managing vendors in QBO:
