Question

I have a balance $920.00 in inventory account which was from an automatic workflow it seems. How can I delete that result or make it zero. Inactivating a/c doesn't help.

Hello there, QB-Advisor.

Allow me to provide the steps to write off the balance in the inventory account.

To do this, you'll need to create a journal entry. Journal entries let you move money between accounts and force your books to balance in specific ways. Therefore, I suggest consulting an accountant regarding your concern to ensure your books stay balanced and accurate. You can use our accountant tool to locate a nearby professional if you don't have one. An accountant can give you the best advice on how to write off balances in your accounts and provide insight on which accounts to affect in the journal entry.

 Here's how to create one:

  1. Click the + New button.
  2. Select Journal entry.
  3. On the first line, select an account from the Account field. Enter the amount in the correct column if you need to debit or credit the account.
  4. On the following line, select the other account you're moving money to or from. Depending on if you entered a debit or credit on the first line, enter the same amount in the opposite column.
  5. Check the amounts - you should have the same amount in the Credit column on one line and the Debit column on the other. This means the accounts are in balance.
  6. Enter information in the memo section to know why you made the journal entry.
  7. Hit Save and close.
