Question

I have a client who has gone out of business and owes us for multiple invoices. How do I get them off the invoices list, but keep them in QB as unpaid?

It's important to keep your financial records accurate while dealing with such situations. Let’s explore the best way to handle this in QuickBooks so that you maintain a clear record.

To begin with, please know that on the Invoice List page, all the invoice transactions for your customers will show. Currently, the option to filter this is unavailable.

In the meantime, I recommend submitting feedback to our product engineers about having the ability to filter the invoice list page.

  1. Log into your QuickBooks Online account via your web browser.
  2. Click on the Gear icon located at the top.
  3. Choose the  Feedback option.
  4. Type your comments or suggestions about the product.
  5. Click Next to submit your feedback.

As a workaround, you can run an Invoice List report and customize it using a modern view specifically for your active customers:

  1. Navigate to the Reports section, located on the left panel.
  2. In the Search tab, enter the Invoice List report.
  3. Click Filter, then in the Transactions Type, and then choose Customers.
  4. In the next field, click Equals, then choose a specific customer.

On the other hand, if you're using a classic view, please refer to this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.
