Question

I have imported my bank statements in QB online. I am ready to add the bank transactions. I have some I want to delete. How do I do that?

Deleting a bank transaction in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is easy, @dkdurell. Let me share my knowledge and expertise in this matter to guide you.

In QBO, there are two ways to remove unnecessary transactions, which depends on the scenario. If you manually import the bank statement and are processing the reconciliation process of your account, opening each transaction and deleting it is the first option. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Transaction menu and select Reconcile.
  2. Choose the account and click the Resume reconciling button.
  3. Locate the entry you want to remove, then click Edit to open the transaction.
  4. Hit the More option at the bottom, then Delete to confirm.

On the other hand, if your online bank account connects to the program and the transactions are uploaded and added to the Banking page, you can undo the unwanted entries in the Categorized tab.

When it moves back to the For Review section, excluding it is the next step to keep your books in order. Once excluded, it won't show in the account registers or financial reports.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the For Review tab, then locate and select the transaction.
  2. Click the Exclude button.
  3. In the Excluded section, choose the recently excluded transaction.
  4. Press Delete.

Additionally, check this article to learn how to add transactions directly in the Chart of Accounts: Manually add transactions to account registers in QuickBooks Online.

Lastly, knowing the reconciliation workflow will help ensure your account is balanced and accurate and speed up the process.
