Sending customer a new invoice and would like other older unpaid invoices total to show up so they know the total amount they owe me. I can set it up as an invoice template but then it does not appear when creating an invoice.

Hi there, Kim.

Let me assist you in sending invoices to your customers and their unpaid invoices in QuickBooks Online. You'll need to enable Account Summary in your saved invoice template to display their outstanding balances and change your template in your invoice creation window.

Here's how:

  1. Head to the Gear icon and select Custom form styles.
  2. Edit your saved invoice template or create a New Style.
  3. While on the Design tab, rename the custom template to anything you prefer. It could be Account Summary.
  4. Go to the Content tab and click the Table section or middle part of the form preview.
  5. Enable the Show on Invoice checkbox.
  6. Click Done to save changes.

After that, we'll need to change your invoice template when creating or editing an invoice to show the account summary successfully.

  1. On the left menu, go to Sales, then choose Invoices.
  2. Find and open the invoice you recently created.
  3. Click the Manage button and head to the Design tab.
  4. Choose the appropriate custom template.
  5. Preview the invoice by clicking Print and Download.

Additionally, you can also consider creating customer statements that you can send to your customers to show them their unpaid invoices or total outstanding balances in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have additional concerns about displaying the account summary to invoices in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help. Have a great day!
