I need a subclass to be in multiple classes

We are a solid waste company that has 4 divisions.  In these divisions we have trucks that operate in all four.

 

I'd like the classes to be a follows:

 

Solid waste: T101, T121, T131 etc.

Recycling: T101, T121, T131 etc.

Sludge: T101, T121, T131 etc.

Green waste: T101, T121, T131 etc.

 

This doesn't seem correct.

Any suggestions?

Currently, there's no global subclass option, and each parent class must have a separate subclass. I greatly value your feedback and understand that customer input is crucial for us to improve our products and services.

  1. Go to the Help icon at the top menu.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online and then click Product Suggestion.
  3. Enter your request, then tap Send Feedback.

 

Our product engineers will consider your suggestions, and you can always check the status of your request on our Customer Feedback website.

 

As a workaround, you can run the Profit and Loss by Class report and export it to an Excel file for you to consolidate the data manually.

Let me provide another option on how to track this correctly, Joe.

 

Once you've set up sub-class A to class A, you're unable to use the A sub-class to a different class like class B. You can set up multiple locations for the 4 divisions, and use classes instead of sub-class. To get started with Advanced inventory, follow the steps outlined below:

 

  1. Make sure you are in single-user mode. Go to the File menu, then select Switch to Single-User mode.
  2. Click on the Edit menu, then select Preferences.
  3. From the list on the left side of the screen, select Items & Inventory, then click on the Company Preference.
  4. Ensure the Inventory and purchase orders are active checkbox is checked. 
  5. From the Multiple Inventory Locations tab, make sure the Multiple Inventory Sites is enabled box is checked. You can also check the boxes to be warned about duplicate inventory transfer numbers or transactions that would cause inventory to go negative.
  6. Next, select the Track Bin Locations within Inventory Sites button if you will be using bin locations within your inventory sites. Warning: When you select Bin Location Tracking, QuickBooks will move all items to unassigned until bins are created. You will need to transfer to the correct bins, using the Transfer Inventory form.
  7. Once you've activated your Advanced Inventory features, you can switch back to Multi-user. Go to the File menu, then select Switch to Multi-User mode.

 

Now you can start tracking multiple inventory locations by setting up a division, from the Lists and then Inventory Site List. You will keep most of your inventory here. If your business stores inventory parts in trucks, then set up each of your trucks as an inventory site. This way, you can keep track of inventory on each vehicle, keeping an accurate count everywhere you have parts.

Thank you for the reply but this isn't about parts for the trucks.  I need to have a P&L in each of the divisions.

Advanced inventory would not accomplish this to my knowledge.
