Question

I need the line items in 1 invoice to show income in the current and previous month P&L and not follow the invoice date only

Anyone familiar with Waste Hauler invoices?
We invoice our customers for the current month services and we also add another line item for overage income and contamination income that should be recognized in the month it was occured (usually previous month)

For example: I want the 1st line item "Service Income" to show in March (this is already working because the invoice date is March)
and 2nd line item Overage income to show in February. (My issue)

Splitting line items and Creating two invoices for two different months wont work for us as we are sending this to clients and we dont want to confuse them with 2 invoices that are dated current and previous month. (Please see attached file)

Hello there. @Cero

I understand how beneficial it is for your business to show the line items in one invoice the current and previous month's profit and loss. However, this feature isn't available in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

As a workaround, we can use progress invoicing. This way, we can customize and add an account summary to your invoices.

  1. Go to Settings  and select Custom form styles.
  2. If you have an existing template, find the invoice template you'll use, then choose Edit from the Action ▼ menu.
  3. Go to the New style▼ and choose Invoice to create a new custom template.
  4. Select the Content tab.
  5. In the form preview, select the Table section.
  6. Select and check the Show on Invoice checkbox.
  7. Select Done.

I've added a screenshot for your visual reference.

You'll want to check this article for more tips on how to add an account summary to your progress invoices: Add an account summary to an invoice in QuickBooks Online.

Please note that this layout isn't available for the new estimate and invoice layout. You may check which layout you have and proceed.
