I need to make a group of items subitems of another item. How can I do this without having to change each separately?

I was attempting to do this in the Paste from Excel feature, and using the copy down option. But it copies all the way to the end of the item list. I'm not sure if this is the ideal place to do this, but it is what I was attempting.

Ok, then some things I would try; But make a backup first so you can go back if you mess things up!!

Using the Add/Edit multiple lists feature:

If you know you have 100 subitems that need a different parent item, make sure those subitems are all grouped together in the Add/Edit feature. Then in excel, make a column of 100 cells (exactly the same number as in QB's)  that contain the NEW parent name. Select all of those, and Copy. then in QB's, select the first 'subitem OF' name that you want to change, and paste. It will paste exactly as many down as you copied from excel.

What would cause some items "subitem of" box to be grey and not allow you to paste?

I have the same issue. When I go to Edit > Add/Edit Multiple List Entries ... the "Subitem Of" column I want to edit is greyed out and I cannot make any changes. How can I mass update this field without having to go into each item??

You change them one at a time, either in the Table view, by Pasting into Subitem of; or, you edit each and mark Subitem of; or, you Drag their little handles. Or, you export the list, change there, and reimport the list.

Nothing does a Batch, when every time we offer a tool to use, you tell us it is a Subset.

If you go to the Item list, and make sure it is in hierarchical view, then you will see a diamond in front of the items name. If you click a sub item's diamond, and drag it left, it is no longer a sub. Then you can drag it up UNDER the item you want it to be a sub of, and then drag it right to make it a sub.

Thank you for your response, unfortunately, this still would require me to make changes to each item individually. I am looking for a solution that allows me to do a whole group at one time. I have some 500 items.

In the Add/Edit view, select the item type and bring the Subitem OF column into your view. Assign the Parent, right click and Copy Down. Save.

It copies down all the items unfortunately, and I only needed a certain group.
