I use QBO and need to convert my raw materials inventory into finished goods inventory as I manufacture them. Each metal bar is purchased and then converted into 50 parts

Converting your raw materials inventory into finished goods is only available in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Feel free to read through this article for more details: Combine your inventory items to build finished goods.

Since you're using the online version of QuickBooks, below are the four types of products/services you can setup:

• Inventory: Products you sell and track quantities for. Inventory features are available for QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced. Here's how to turn on and use inventory features.
• Non-inventory: Products or items you buy or sell, but don't need to track quantities. For example, nuts and bolts you use for installation jobs but don't sell directly.
• Services: Services you provide to customers.
• Bundle: Several products or services you sell together as a single item. For example, a gift basket.

The Add product and service items link will tell you more about setting up what you buy and sell in QuickBooks Online.

You can look for a manufacturing app as mentioned by @Fiat Lux - ASIA in this thread. Otherwise, you may switch over to QBDT so you can use the assembly feature without speeding more money.
