I've an invoice that won't be paid, need to create a Bad Debt account to write it off. Self-Employed doesn't allow creation of a bad debt account? or Credit memos?

As you mentioned, creating a "Bad Debt" account and/or credit memos are not available in the Self-Employed version of QBSE. You may consider reaching out to your accountant for the best action moving forward on how to record invoices that won't be paid.
