Question

I've paid a contractor and entered the check payment into quickbooks. The contractor info is entered but is not listed to file a 1099. How do I fix this?

Hi there, chrisashcraft2. Let me share some details on why your contractor hasn't been listed to file a 1099.

If one of your contractors isn't showing on the list, ensure they're active and set up for 1099 tracking or marked as eligible for a 1099. Here's where you can check this out.

If you're in the middle of creating one, select the Add from Vendor list button and choose the appropriate vendor on the Review Your Contractor's Info window.

If you're not creating one, you can make this 1099 report to see the vendor you're set to track 1099s. Then, from there on, you can change their status.

Furthermore, make sure your payments to this contractor meet the threshold. Only those contractors you've [aid above the annual $600 cash threshold get a 1099. Also, credit card payments aren't included since these payments will be reported by the financial institution and shouldn't be included in the company's 1099 values.

Also, QuickBooks uses the expense accounts when you map to report 1099 transactions. You can review the contractor payment transactions and associated accounts if the amount is off.
