I would like to generate a report comparing January (or any other selected month) to all the other previous January's for a selected period

There are various reports you can generate in QuickBooks Desktop. Could you specify what report you want to run? 

 

Additionally, what type of transactions do you want to compare, like sales, expense, budget, or actuals? This information will allow me to offer you more specific advice.

Certainly, thank you for the reply. A standard P&L report is what I would like to compare, or at the very least, a Sales by Rep Summary. Thanks!

Welcome back, @MD8618. When generating the Profit &Loss Monthly Comparison and Sales by Rep Summary, you can compare different months using the customization feature. I'm here to guide you on how to do it. 

 

To compare this year to 2022 below, you must manually set the year. You don't need to worry; I'm here to provide detailed steps. 

 

Meanwhile, if you wish to compare the month of January this year to last year, here's how: 

 

  1. Hover to Reports, then click Report Center.
  2. Enter Profit & Loss Monthly Comparison or Sales by Rep Summary in the search bar, then click the arrow to run. 
  3. Click Customize Report, and tick the Previous Year. 
  4. If you want the last month to show, tick the Previous Period. 
  5. If you wish to compare January 2021 to January 2019, set the date in the From section. (For example, from January 1, 2021, to January 31, 2021). Then, follow step 4.
  6. Once done, hit OK.
