I have not tested importation into QBO for a long while and do not know if anything had changed.

Is there a good tool or a way of importing Expenses into QBO? Don't see that option under Settings--Import Data.

Hey there, @HAM9

It's great to see you back in the Community! I'd be more than happy to help answer your question about importing expenses into QuickBooks Online.

You can import the following information to QBO:

  • Bank Data
  • Customers
  • Vendors
  • Chart of Accounts
  • Products and Services
  • Invoices

There's other common questions and answers about importing data that may become helpful to you in the future.

With all of the details being stated above, there isn't a way to import expenses. I do recommend submitting feedback to our Product Developers so they can consider adding this as a feature in the near future. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear (Settings) icon in the top right-hand corner.
  2. Press the Feedback option.
  3. Enter your suggestions, and click Next to successfully submit your feedback.

I hope this helps answer your question. Feel free to come back if you need additional assistance!

@HAM9

Do you need to import bills from your vendors or only expenses?

@4Gal & @Candice C

I am referring to importing of Expenses, not Bills.

Let's get started on this right away, @HAM9. I'll share details on how you can import expenses into QuickBooks Online.

You can import expenses by navigating the Banking section and uploading them following the 3-column or 4-column format by CSV file. That said, all your transactions will go directly to the banking section.

Please follow the procedure below:

  1. From the Banking tab, go to the Banking section.
  2. Select the Link account ▼ dropdown and then Upload from the file.
  3. Select files and then choose the file you downloaded from your bank. Then, choose Continue in the QuickBooks account ▼ dropdown.
  4. Select the account you want to upload the transactions. Then select Continue.
  5. Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks. Then select Continue.
  6. Select the transactions you would like to import. Then select Continue.
  7. Select Yes.
  8. When you accept your transactions, select Done.

For additional insights, let me show you a glance at this article that will guide you on categorizing transactions in QuickBooks Online so you can put them into the accurate expense account.

Once done, you are now ready to reconcile your books. Here's an article that you can refer to for your future reference:
