Let's make sure you'll be able to save your invoices as a draft, Carol.

When you create an invoice, you'll have the option to either save it as a draft or subscribe to send it. Once you click the Save as a draft button, a pop message telling you that your invoice is saved should appear on the upper part. See the screenshot below:

You can go to the Invoices tab to double-check if you've successfully saved the invoice.

If you've saved the invoice as a draft, it should show a Draft indication:

However, if you're still unable to save it, let's see if this is a browser-related issue. We can perform some troubleshooting steps to fix the problem. Use the shortcut keys below to access a private window (incognito):

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

When using incognito mode, this deletes cookies and browser history leaving your browser clean and easy to access any websites and error-free.

Once done, check if you can file multiple 1099s without getting the error. If it works, go back to the main browser to clear its cache and delete some outdated files that might be the cause of the error. Otherwise, use a supported, up-to-date browser.

In addition, here's an overview of everything that you can do, how to set up, and how QuickBooks tracks everything throughout the year using QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE): Overview Of QuickBooks Self-Employed.
