Question

Is anyone else having trouble with their categories being missing on quickbooks on their iPhone?

Recently I’ve noticed that all of my standard categories like “cost of goods sold,” “job supplies,” “sales of product income,” etc are no longer there as an option in the app on my iPhone. So I can’t categorize any transactions (both income and expenses) coming in.

I recognize the importance of categorizing your transactions promptly, Hounditdownbaker. Let me shed some light on this ongoing issue.

We've received similar reports about categories missing when creating expenses in the QuickBooks Online(QBO) iOS mobile app. In the meantime, I recommend using the browser version of the program when categorizing your transactions.

Moreover, I'd also suggest contacting our QBO Support Team so they can gather additional data about the issue and add you to the list of affected users. By doing so, you'll receive email updates regarding this issue. I'll show you how to reach out to them.

  1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right-hand corner of QBO.
  2. Proceed to the Assistant tab.
  3. Type in "contact support" in the chat box and press Enter.
  4. Select QuickBooks Online Support, then click Contact Us at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Click Ask about something else, then enter a short description of your concern.
  6. Choose between Have us call you or Chat.

When you're ready to classify your entries into the correct category, check out this resource for guidance: Categorize online bank transactions in QBO.

Finally, I'll add this article to help you keep an organized and updated record in QBO: Reconciling an account in QuickBooks.

Feel free to comment here if you need further assistance categorizing your transactions on the mobile app. We're always ready to provide the guidance you need.
