Question

Is it possible to import an IIF file into QuickBooks Online US?

My veterinary practice utilizes Cornerstone practice management software and there's supposed to be a way to export a general ledger report for import into QuickBooks but I'm having issues and I'm wondering if it's because of my account access (i.e. I need to upgrade my subscription) or if it's because it's not possible to do this in QuickBooks Online version. The ledger report from Cornerstone exports as an IIF file and I can't find where to import that file extension in QuickBooks Online. Does anyone know if this is possible in Online or if I'd have to switch to Desktop?

Thanks!

Thank you for reaching out, EHolbrook

Importing an IIF file directly into QuickBooks Online (QBO) isn't supported. QBO only allows the import of certain file types like CSV, Excel, and QBO files.

To import data from other software like Cornerstone, you might need to convert the IIF file into a compatible format. One option is to use a third-party conversion tool to convert the IIF file to a CSV or Excel format that can be imported into QBO. You can go to the Apps menu inside your QuickBooks Online account or use this link to look for one: Apps help QuickBooks run better

Alternatively, if you prefer using QuickBooks Desktop, it does support the import of IIF files. You can consider switching to the QuickBooks Desktop version if importing IIF files is a crucial requirement for your veterinary practice.

@EHolbrook

You need to use QB Desktop to import IIF files. You can switch to QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus or Premier Plus.

If you still prefer to use QB Online, you will need to convert IIF to XLS or CSV. Then you will need a 3rd party tool to import data as Journal Entry.

Hi @EHolbrook , there is no feature in QuickBooks Online to import IIF files, but that does not mean you have to swtich to QuickBooks Destkop as there is a third party app called Axis Online that you can find in the QuickBooks Online Apps Marketplace that can upload IIF files then convert them and directly import them into QuickBooks Online.

Hope that gives you another option.
