Question

Jobcosting and Estimates for cost and revenue

I have a customer that is a general contractor.  He does not want mark ups on each item when viewing reports, he does not want to see cost and revenue at the same amount (with no markup).  He wants to see an estimated cost per item with estimated revenue zero and then wants to see a lump sum estimated revenue by category like base house, options, etc.  Is there a way to record estimated cost with no estimated revenue?  Is it possible to record an estimate with revenue only and no cost?

I appreciate any feedback.

actually I may have found a solution, in the estimate if you make the cost column zero and the total column has an amount, only the revenue prints on the estimated revenue report.  For cost, if you enter the cost amount, then the same cost as a negative amount under markup, the total column is zero and only the cost will show up on the estimates report.  Is there any reason we should not use this process?

Thank you

Thank you for sharing your solution about your estimates, @Gina62. Let me share more information about the estimate report.

Yes, you can use this workaround for your estimates reports. It will not affect your book, as estimates are non-posting transactions.

Moreover, I'd like to share this informations to help you manage your estimates and reports:

Another question, I need to enter a budget for an entire project (several lots/jobs included) and when I record a budget on the master customer name but the costs are on the jobs under the customer and I filtered the Estimates vs. Actuals report by name-multiple names, it does not pick up the job costs.  It appears the filter by name & using multiple names does not work with the Estimates vs. Actuals jobcost reports.  Is that correct?  Is there any workaround to get customer & jobs on one report when there's just one estimate and multiple jobs?

Thank you.
