Question

My 2023 estimated federal payments and 2024 estimated federal payments cannot be distinguished/categorized independently from one another. How to remedy this?

My 2023 estimated federal payments and 2024 estimated federal payments cannot be distinguished from one another correctly. I cannot categorize an estimated payment specifically for a year. For instance, I've made two recent IRS payments in 2024, but one was for 2023. The system registers it as 2024 and I cannot correctly attribute it to the tax year.

Thanks for posting here in the Community space, Hannah. Let me help you further with your estimated federal payments in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

To fix this, you can delete and recreate your tax payment if you manually entered it within QBSE. Once you recreate it, note to choose the correct date of the federal payment to ensure that the system will register it as 2023. You can recreate it by manually entering a transaction in QBSE. Here's how:

On a web browser

  1. In Transactions, go to Add Transaction.
  2. Put the amount and the description.
  3. Click the Select a Category menu. In choosing the right category, follow the link.
  4. If a receipt is available, you can drop it into the form.
  5. Once done, click Save.

If you're using an iOS or Android, check out this link for guidance: Manually add transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

For bank payments, you can undo the category and exclude then manually enter the correct payment.

On the other hand, you can refer to this link for more guides on filing taxes inside QBSE: QuickBooks Self-Employed annual tax guide.

Feel free to reply to this post for more questions about federal tax in QBSE. I'll be happy to assist. Take care!
