Question

My bookkeeper has my QB Online billed to them. Two questions, how do I get the billing back to me? I am currently in read-only mode, how do I turn this off?

Hi:

They have me listed as "Primary admin"

Welcome to the Community space, @remaxunlimited1.

Welcome to the Community space,

I am here to provide some insights on how you can have your billing back and remove the read-only mode in your QuickBooks Online (QBO).

First off, you'll need to request your accountant or your bookkeeper to transfer the billing to you. Once the billing is already transferred to you, you need to update your billing information to remove the read-only mode.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Subscriptions and billing.
  2. Select the Billing details tab.
  3. Click on Edit billing information and update your payment details.
  4. This will take you to the Wallet list, where you can:
  • Edit the payment method used for QuickBooks Online billing (expiration date, billing address, account holder name)
  • Add a new payment method to be used for QuickBooks Online billing
  • Switch QuickBooks Online billing to a previously stored payment method

    5.
After saving your change, the payment method displays on the Billing details tab.

How do I get my view only mode off

May 27, 2025

To get back with your QuickBooks Online (QBO) access and not have the view-only mode, you'll need to resubscribe to your account, as my colleagues have mentioned in the thread, @pm38_.

Please know that you'd have to be the Primary Admin to resubscribe to your QBO account. If you were previously under the ProAdvisor plan, I'd recommend reaching out to them first to transfer the Primary Admin access to you. Refer to the Remove a client from your ProAdvisor discount plan section of this article for more details: Manage your ProAdvisor Preferred Pricing plan and ProAdvisor discount clients.

Once this is done, follow these steps to resubscribe:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account as the Primary Admin.
  2. From the Gear icon,  choose Subscriptions and Billing.
  3. Hit Resubscribe.
  4. Choose your new payment method (Credit/Debit Card or PayPal).
  5. Input the updated payment and billing details.
  6. Finally, click on Resubscribe.

Next, make sure your QBO account is updated.

  1. Log out and then log back in.
  2. From the Gear icon, select Subscriptions and billing.
  3. Verify the date of the next charge. If it falls on a past date, reach out to Live Support Team to avoid any unexpected retroactive charges.

You specifically mentioned View-only mode, however, this is a QBO thread, did you perhaps have a QBDT subscription? If this is the case, refer to this article for guidance: Renew your subscription or use view-only mode in QuickBooks Desktop.
