Question

My company uses QBO Plus. I'd like to add an automatic 2% late fee to outstanding invoices. I can't find a way to change this in the Account and Settings. Please help!

There is no late fee category or section to edit. Is this not possible to do in Plus? Do I need Advanced to do this?

Hi there, Heidi.

Thank you for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community. In QuickBooks Online Plus subscription, the late fees feature is available to use, and I'm here to guide you in finding it through the Accounts and Settings page.

Here's how:

  1. Head to Accounts and Settings.
  2. Go to the Sales tab and find the Late fees section.
  3. Turn on the Default charge applied to overdue invoices switch.
  4. Enter the Amount and/or Percent (%) of the fee.
  5. Select the Frequency dropdown, then choose how often you charge customers.
  6. Hit Save.

After you turn on late fees, QuickBooks automatically creates an income account to track the amount of fees you’ve collected for reporting purposes. The account is set up as an Other Income account type and is named Late fee income.

Additionally, you can also learn how to create personalized late fee for each of your customer in QBO.

You're always welcome to leave a reply for additional concerns besides setting up late fees in QuickBooks Online. I'd be glad to assist you.
